In Australia “Ember Days” are celebrated on the first Friday at the beginning of Autumn and the Beginning of Spring. The word “Ember” is derived from the German word “Quatember”. It means “Quarter Day”. The celebration of Ember days in the Catholic Church began in the fifth century. These days are an opportunity to praise God for a fruitful season, for the wonder of humanity, the fruits of the earth, and the dignity of human labour. That’s what we will do at our 8AM Mass next Friday.
