Help Asylum Seekers by Donating Devices

People seeking asylum in Sydney often lack government income support and struggle to access mobile phones and computers. You can assist by donating your second-hand laptops, tablets, and phones.

Your donation can enable someone to study, search for work, contact family, and manage interactions with government agencies. The St. Pat’s Social Justice team encourages our parish community to donate a device in honor of WORLD REFUGEE DAY. See the back of the flyer for more information.

How to Donate:

We are collecting the following devices in working condition:

  • Laptops: up to 7 years old
  • MacBooks: up to 9 years old
  • Tablets: up to 7 years old
  • Phones: up to 7 years old
  • iPhones: iPhone 6 or newer (reset)
  • iPads: iPad 5 or newer (reset)
  • Mice, headphones, webcams, and chargers (spare chargers are always welcome)

Instructions:

  1. Check Usability: Ensure your device is usable. Generally, devices up to 7 years old can be refreshed by the Asylum Seekers Centre. Verify here: Donate a Device.
  2. Avoid Unneeded Technology: Do not donate items like printers or desktop computers. Check the list here: Donate a Device.
  3. Erase and Reset Your Device: Protect your data by erasing and resetting your device. Refer to your manufacturer’s website for instructions. Ensure all data, apps, cloud connections, card details, etc., are removed, and take out your old SIM card. The device should start with a ‘welcome’ message and be unlocked. The Asylum Seekers Centre cannot use devices locked with a passcode/password.
  4. Collection Times: Devices will be collected after each mass on the weekends of:
    • June 22 & 23
    • June 29 & 30
    • July 6 & 7

You can also leave your device at St. Patrick’s Primary School office between 8 am and 3 pm on weekdays.
